{"id":354,"date":"2019-09-07T19:48:29","date_gmt":"2019-09-07T19:48:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/harristuning.com\/Tbi\/?page_id=354"},"modified":"2019-09-07T19:56:20","modified_gmt":"2019-09-07T19:56:20","slug":"lkn-speeds-vortec-350-tbi","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/harristuning.com\/Tbi\/lkn-speeds-vortec-350-tbi\/","title":{"rendered":"LKN SPEEDS VORTEC 350 TBI"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"461\" height=\"256\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/harristuning.com\/Tbi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/LKNSPEED1.jpg?resize=461%2C256&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-110\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/harristuning.com\/Tbi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/LKNSPEED1.jpg?w=461&amp;ssl=1 461w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/harristuning.com\/Tbi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/LKNSPEED1.jpg?resize=300%2C167&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 461px) 100vw, 461px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>1992 Silverado Sport &#8216;SS454 clone&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This setup is very popular especially in the 2wd trucks which led me to improve upon it using a Vortec 350 and replacing the factory roller cam with a Lunati 20080660 roller camshaft for more power and better reliability and listed that setup under my recommended engines page as engine number 2.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_l27PwABKLQ\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 <a href=\"mailto:oldschoolcustoms@hotmail.com\">Scott @ LKN Speed<\/a> set out to build a \u00a0potent,\u00a0low-budget Vortec TBI smallblock package for customers and used his own work\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 truck as the test mule.\u00a0 The goal was 200hp\/300tq at the rear wheels\u00a0and 20mpg-\u00a0all on 87 octane fuel!\u00a0\u00a0The engine package is very basic- just a good combination of parts that work well\u00a0together:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GM &#8216;010&#8217; 2 bolt block, bored .060-over, HME coated bearings Speed Pro flat top pistons, stock rods and crank- balanced&nbsp;9.7:1 compression<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vortec &#8216;906&#8217; heads, with&nbsp; &#8216;street port&#8217; special, 3 angle seats&nbsp;+ summit 1.94\/1.5&nbsp;valves<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Comp 212\/218, .449\/.458 flat tappet cam and matching valve springs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>stock GM rocker arms, Summit stage-1 intake + trans-dapt center mount TBI adapter &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; UNPORTED stock 42mm 450cfm GM 5.7&nbsp;throttle&nbsp; body<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Custom chip\/fuel pump\/spring kit from Brian @TBIchips<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Summit 1.5\/2.5 shorty headers, flowmaster collector, magnaflow 3&#8243; hi flow cat, and&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; flowmaster super44 muffler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stock GM air cleaner with Holley element and lid &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Auto Specialties underdrive crank pulley &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; stock 700-R4 trans, stock converter, and 3.08 gears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the dyno sheet shows a run with factory manifolds and y-pipe, as well as a run with the&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; headers and flowmaster collector. ALL runs were on 87 octane fuel!!!!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a video of the truck on the dyno: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1Vv0c05Nu3s\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>This\u00a0truck is a blast to drive!\u00a0 A true\u00a0&#8216;sleeper&#8217;, with\u00a0a\u00a0throaty\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 exhaust note and\u00a0barely noticeable idle. Smoke shows arent a problem, and a rolling\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 punch will easily put those newer trucks (and a few musclecars)\u00a0in\u00a0the rear view mirror!\u00a0 Driven with a light right foot, this combination sees 17mpg city and19-20mpg highway on a regular basis, and is very happy\u00a0on 87 octane!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I must say that 245hp and 308lbs torque at the rear wheels are some&nbsp;impressive numbers for small headers, stock throttle body bore and stock air cleaner base.&nbsp;&nbsp;Also note that Scott gained 18hp and 21lbs of torque by changing out that Y pipe&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; piece and that is a significant gain for not much $$.&nbsp; I believe this combo still has at least another 20hp or so even with 87 octane fuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using a conservative 20% drivetrain loss that calculates to 308hp and\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 385lbs of torque at the flywheel which are some good truck numbers and I feel 20% is a\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 little low for drivetrain loss but we don&#8217;t want to exaggerate numbers either.\u00a0 The\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 fact that it runs very smooth with 100hp more than a stock TBI truck and 85lbs more torque\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 is the important thing here.
